Hollow Knight Review
Hollow Knight Review
Hello everyone! And welcome to another review (I've been doing a few of those lately, haven't I!) This time were going to be taking about Hollow Knight, an indie mentrovania. But before we start, please consider liking, sharing and subscribing to NintendosView. Now let's dive deep into the caves of Hollow Knight!
Story
The cool thing about the story of Hollow Knight is, you just... start. Your in a cave and when you head out you learn more and more about the world. Plus the story is often up to interoperation. Which makes this part really cool!
Graphics
You can't talk about Hollow Knight and not talk about its graphics. They are stunning and give you both a sense of awe, or humor, or foreboding or even somber… or all at the same time. The invirments are awe inspiring, the npc, though bugs, look kinda human and quirky as well. The graphics in this game are amazing!
GamePlay
First off, if you've played a Metrovania before this should all be familiar. You start with just being able to hit, and once you unlock more skills you can unlock more areas to unlock more skills to... you get the point.
The enemy's in this game at first are pretty easy but once you get far enough there more then an annoyance! Also, the boss fights are epic! With multiple phases and once you beat them you often get there skill. There are also a lot of mini-bosses in this game.
Now, this game really makes you appreciate having a map. And its not because there aren't maps. You just have to find them, which makes you explore even more and discover the new area on your own. Its vary clever actually.
The farther you progress you also unlock charms, get a new nail, that kinda thing. And these are all very useful and fun to collect.
The game is also filled with quirky bug npc's that are a lot of fun to find and talk to. Some will sell you stuff, while others will tell you to get out of there way! And there all vastly different, making it even more fun to find them all.
Another thing I HAVE to talk about is the atmosphere. It is as good as any Metroid game! It feels dark, ominous and yet, it also has a sense of beauty and awe. Its done expertly well.
The only problems I ran into were, I forget what things are on the mini-map, it sometimes felt a little repetitive. I didn't know where to go or what skill I need to go there and things like that.
Music
The music perfectly captures the ominous, haunting, beautiful world and adds another layer to the atmosphere. It is pretty amazing, often being played on a violin or a piano. I have nothing negative to say about it.
The sound effects are ether bug sounds, or echoy cave sounds. And both get the job done really well, adding even MORE to the atmosphere.
Replay Value
There is a hard mode where you can only die once. There is also new dlc coming soon with a new area. There is also a lot to explore in Hollow Knight, and chances are you probably missed a few spots.
Conclusion
Hollow Knight is a beautiful game. Both in its quality and how its crafted, and in its music and graphics. The controls are tight and responsive, the caves are vast and undiscovered. So, what are you waiting for? Go play it! Its only 20$ on the Nintendo eshop!
