Luigi's Mansion Review

Luigi's Mansion Review
Welcome everyone to another review! Today I am going to cover one of my favorite games of all time... LUIGI'S MANSION! But I'm going to try my best to give it a fair, 2018 review. (and I'll try not to gush!)
But before we start, please consider liking, sharing and subscribing to NintendosView.
Now lets head deep, into the mansion!

Story
The story of the game is pretty straight forward, Luigi won a mansion in a race he never ran! Mario and Luigi were so excited! They were both going to meet up at the mansion but Luigi got lost in the woods for some time, but by the time he got to the mansion, Mario was missing! (pun intended!)
And then you discover more about Mario and about the ghosts and the mansion the further you go in the game.

The story is a unique twist on the Mario bros story, and get especially interesting when you learn more about the ghosts and the mansion itself. It does have a good story for a Mario game!

Gameplay
First I'll start with the controls. There are two options, sidestep and normal. Normal is where Luigi faces and goes wherever you move with the stick.  Sidestep is a little more complicated. Luigi stays the direction he's facing but can move in any direction,  and you change the direction he's facing with the C stick.
The rest of the controls are, A to call for Mario (classic and good fun!), open doors and interact with items and characters. B turns off the flashlight, Y opens up the map, X goes into first person scanning mode where you can scan objects and ghosts to learn about, or even interact with.
Z opens up the stats like info on the ghosts you caught, how much money you have.... and R makes Luigi suck up with his vacuum. He harder or softer depending on how much you press it down. And Finally, L squirts out any of the three elements you have. (water, ice or fire, but you unlock these later in the game!)

The controls still work great today and feel natural  and fluid. It may take a little bit to get use to, but once you do it controls like a dream!

Next up, the interface shows your health, how much element you have left, how many boos you caught, money and if there's a Boo nearby. It all works vary well and helps out a lot on your journey.

Okay, so in the game you go room to room, sucking up ghosts and solving puzzles. And it does feel like your exploring a dark, spooky mansion! You unlock keys as you go, new abilities and lots of money as you progress. The normal ghosts are fun to fight, however, half the time one appears Luigi jumps with fright, which can get annoying.
To fight normal ghosts, you have to startle them with your flashlight, and then suck them up, often while avoiding the other ghosts. Its all about timing and its a lot of fun!
The People and Boss ghosts though, are a bit different. Each one is a puzzle and you have to figure out there weakness so you can suck 'em up! From waiting to the right moment, to pulling back curtains, its always extremely satisfying to figure out how to catch the portrait ghosts.

The boss battles sadly, are for the most part pretty easy, but they can still be a challenge. They are like a puzzle as well. You have to figure out what to suck up to hurt this boss, all while dodging there attacks.

And finally, once you beat the game, you get a new, ghost free mansion and its size depends on how much money you collect on your journey. Will you have Luigi live in a grand mansion, or a hut?                     Also, once you beat the game you unlock the hidden mansion, which is a hard mode. In the American and Japanese version, it simply makes everything do twice as much damage, but is easier to suck up. But if you live in Europe, then the mansion is mirrored, there are more ghosts, new boss patterns and attacks, the mansions darker and more.

Music and sound effects
If you were wondering if the music in Luigi's mansion was any good, let me put your mind to ease. The Luigi's Mansion theme, is one of my FAVORITE SONGS OF ALL TIME AND ITS SO AMAZING AND... sorry, I tried!
But yeah, it really is amazing, and its crazy because there are so many layers to just that one theme! Up above is the Super Smash Bros Brawl remix but you get the idea. There's Luigi humming along with the theme, in some rooms... if you listen closely, you can hear the ghosts eerily singing along as well! If you go outside, its playing a piano melody out there. Also, if you pass certain rooms, you hear more to add to the tune, like a piano playing along to the theme by itself! Its just crazy with all the detail and secrets hidden in this game!
The rest of the songs are great as well, from the frantic song playing when your sucking up a ghosts to Professor E. Gadd's theme, its oozing with either charm, or spookiness.

As for the sound effects, they at times do sound a little dated, but for the most part it is still great! There are even some sound effects used from Super Mario 64!

Graphics
As for the graphics, there good, but since this was the launch title of the GameCube, haven't aged as well as I'd like. Luigi and other characters show plenty of emotions, the ghosts are see-through and glow in the dark, the dust particles still look really good but some things, like E. Gadd's shack, haven't aged well. But I'm sure you realized that from the screenshots.
However, what has aged well makes it fell dark and spooky. From the candles, to the ghosts it certainty both in sounds and in Gameplay makes it fell the right kind of spooky that I just can't get enough of!

Replay Value
This game has a TON of replay value! Its only about an  hour long so its easy to pick it right up again! You can try to find all the secrets (there are many!), or you could try to get as much money as possible  to get the best mansion, or get as little to get a shack.
There is also the hidden mansion but unless you live in Europe, the difference isn't too noticeable. Plus the atmosphere is outstanding and gives me spooky atmosphere that I just can't get enough of!               This all combined to give it outstanding replay value.

Conclusion
Luigi's mansion is an outstanding game that keeps making me come back for more. From its spooky addicting atmosphere, to its just as addicting gameplay, to its amazing music and fantastic replay value!
It isn't however, perfect because some of the sound effects and graphics haven't aged the best.

Never the less, I honestly love this game as much as Breath of the Wild and this game deserves your attention! If your even considering getting this I can't recommend it enough!
