Is There a Spirits Mode In Super Smash Bros Ultimate?
The Internet went crazy when they witnessed the death of our dear friend Luigi. (But don't worry, he's okay!) They also noticed a few things. And all of this, my friends, they believe are connected to a story mode in Super Smash Bros Ultimate called Spirits Mode! But before we start, please consider liking, sharing and subscribing to NintendosView. Now let's dive into the possibilities of a spookier story mode.
The Evidence
First we will dive into the evidence of there being such a mode. The first piece of evidence is...
Blurred Out Mode
During the direct, Sakuri teased that there was a mode to Smash that he couldn't quite show yet. We saw the menu, but the mode was blurred out. However, that didn't stop fans from trying to decipher it. My guess as soon as he said it was the new story mode, like Sub-Space Emissary. It turns out I'm not the only one thinking around these lines.
One twitter uses named I'attarde was messing around with it on photoshop and discovered that the pixels at the vary edge of the button were not blurred. Because of the kind of opacity Nintendo used, he was able to re-create the word and found that it said, "Spirits" Then in the Japanese version he did the same thing and it was Kanji and it translated to, once again, spirits.
Now, he could just be pulling our leg but that evidence alone is fairly convincing.
Return of Boss Stages
Now, there haven't been boss stages since Brawl, the vary same game with the giant, epic story mode. Not only that, there are bosses on them! Could this point to a story mode where you face Drakula and a monster from monster hunter?
The Brutal Reveal Trailers
Now, what could this spirits mode be if its real? Well, let's look at the reveal trailers. First off, the reveal of the inklings gave this smash a more dark, ominous look. Second is Ridley, who brutally takes out Mario and Mega Man to face his nemesis, Samas Aran.
Then one look at the castlevania reveal trailer and it's not hard to connect it to a Spirits Mode.
King K. Rool's reveal trailer was a bit harder to fit in, but it does follow the trend of hero v.s villain of the reveal trailers. And, I suppose you could argue that K. Rool could have killed King Deeadee but that's debatable.
The point is, hero v.s villain and they could be trying to take the souls of the hero's like in Castlvania's. But I'm getting ahead of myself. Now let's enter the realm of possibility.
What Could It Be Like?
Say there was a Spirits Mode? What would it be like? Let's break it down.
Story
If all this evidence is real, what does it tell us? Well, I believe there are three clues. The reveal trailers, the name itself, and the fact that its a big one and is being saved for later.
I think we've already discussed some of the things of the reveal trailers. Like good v.s evil and the possibility of villains stealing the souls of heroes (like turning them into trophies in subspace.) But why are they stealing souls? Will you see the spirit world? Who is the main villain? No idea except for wild guesses.
But the name, spirits and the reveal trailers show that it will likely be a bit darker than normal. Perhaps the main villain feeds on the souls of heroes to become more powerful? Maybe its a ghosts of some sort? A villain like the one in subspace.
And the final clue hints that its big. Most likely a big, single player experience? I think it is most likely. It would make the Ultimate Smash one hundred times more Ultimate!
Game Play
The best hints we can get from this is the boss stages. We got to see some people trying to take down Dracula, but it sure did look hard. Perhaps he's a later boss, or maybe Ultimate's single player mode is fairly difficult. In any case, there is sure to be bosses, from fighters to outright bosses. As for the enemy's we have no idea. If spirits is real, however, you can be sure to face plenty of villains.
And there you have it! What do you think of this Spirts Mode theory? Do you believe it? If so, what do you think it will be like? Let us know in the comments below. Thanks for reading!
