Welcome everybody to another News/ direct style news roundup! For today, there is a lot to cover but before we start, consider liking, sharing and subscribing to NintendosView. Now let's go!
Docked and Undocked Play are Around The Same
Nintendo Senior Vice President for Sales and Marketing Doug Bowser (Yes, you read his last name right!) has told ArsTechnica which one we play on more, docked, or undocked. While I personally play it docked the most apparently...
“Play time split between docked and undocked play on the Switch is “about even—about 50 percent in the dock and 50 percent away from the dock.” That latter includes both tabletop play and fully handheld play; Bowser said the company doesn’t currently monitor which “undocked” mode a player is using at any given time.”
“One of the nice things we’ve seen with the Switch is we’re able to read more telemetry data in how players are engaging with the content,” Bowser said. “We get that when they connect, if they have a Nintendo account we have the ability to understand how they’re engaging with the device….From a positioning standpoint we can look at various titles and how they’re being played. That allows us to think about various ways with digital marketing and some of our videos to know how to position them.”
Which do you play on the most? Docked, or undocked? Let us know in the comments. Now our next item of business is...
New GameCube And Pokemon Trademarks
Ahhh, the GameCube! Where I spent plenty of my childhood racing, fighting, rolling, you name it! And now Nintendo has registered for a GameCube trademark. Here's the description.
These trademarks are for video gaming (not general merchandising) purposes.
And the trademarks haven't stopped yet! Both Nintendo AND Gamefreak applied for Poke-Lun TV trademarks. What is Poke-Lun TV you might ask?
A new TV series, the name of the core Pokemon RPG??? Well, I went through google translate and this was my discovery. In Japanese… Poke-Lun simply means... Poke-Mon. So its Pokemon TV! So either there just making sure no one copies it, or maybe there bringing it onto the switch? Let us know what you think in the comments.
What's With the GameCube Trademark?
So, I think there are a few possibilities. It could simply be so that no one steals the GameCube's name.
It could also be for the new GameCube Switch controllers for Super Smash Bros Ultimate. It could be for a future GameCube Classic or even to port GameCube games onto the switch or into the paid online. You never know.
Layton’s Mystery Journey: Katrielle And The Millionaires’ Conspiracy Gets New Switch Trailer
If you don't know, Professor Lanton is a series on the 3ds with mystery, lovable characters and much more and now his daughter gets to come over to the switch and star in her own game.
Layton's Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires Conspiracy (Man that's a mouthful!) is being ported over to the switch and you can check out the trailer here. Also, did you know that she is going to have her own anime? Just throwing that out there!
Next up we have...
Commercial Break!
Don't go away! The news will be back right after the break! I'm doing this new thing in the news section to make it more interesting where there are commercial breaks in-between some of the news. Let us know what you think of this change in the comments.
Up above is a GameCube Commercial for Pikmin 2 and well... I saw it for a few seconds and just stared. Than, I burst into laugher. Its just plain bazar!
And here's the second commercial!
Thankfully, this one isn't quite as horrifying as the Pikmin one was, but I think we can all agree that the Legend of Zelda TV series is best left forgotten.
And now, back to the news!
Regie Hints Future Crossovers
Nintendo has been doing more and more crossovers as of late, and it sounds like that's not going to stop any time soon.
Speaking to Waypoint, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aimé has spoken about Nintendo's relationship with external development partners. When asked about the possibility of more collaborations appearing in the future,
"Nintendo has a rich history of partnering with other companies whether it's work we've done with Activision back with Skylanders and the access we gave them to some of our intellectual property. You've had Link show up in various fighting games in the past. I mean just look at Smash Bros. and the help that Mr. Sakurai is getting in the creation of that game."
"And so we have a legacy of working with partners. In the end though these relationships are based on a number of factors. One is a strong understanding of us as a company and the ways that we like to do business. Second is a strong understanding of the intellectual property that we might be talking about how that might be used. And then third, a mentality of, you know, how does one plus one become something big. We want to do things that are big. And I'm not going to, I'm not going to break news per se, but we're always having those types of conversations."
So, who do you think Nintendo will crossover with next? Let us know in the comments.
Niantic Shows Off The Future of Augmented Reality With Pikachu
This cool teck demo created by the same fokes who made Pokemon Go show off how AR is getting better and better. The first section looks cool at first, until Pikachu runs through people. The second and third, however, is designed so that Pikachu and Eevee weave around people and objects.
"The recently acquired Matrix Mill team at Niantic has spent years building and perfecting deep neural networks that can infer information about the surrounding world from one or more cameras. This technology redefines how machines see and understand the 3D world and more importantly, how digital objects can interact with the real elements of it..."
"In the above AR experience of Codename: Niantic Occlusion, you can see Pikachu and Eevee weaving through and around different objects in the real world, dodging feet and hiding behind planters. This level of integration into the environment around us is a proof-of-concept that excites us about the future of AR."
Is Another Gaming Rival Forming?
There have been rumors circulating that Google, one of the biggest companies in the world, may be heading into the gaming market, and quite frankly, I'm not surprised. If Atari's going back into the home console market, why not Google?
According to Kotaku, who claim to have heard from sources who "have either been briefed on Google’s plans or heard about them secondhand", Google currently has a "three-pronged" strategy in place for a new gaming system to rival those currently on the market. These three angles are reportedly as follows:
Point one makes it sound like it will not have physical games and be totally digital. point two makes it sound like a home console or something. And point three sounds like Google aggressively grabbing companies to have them support there console."1) Some sort of streaming platform, 2) some sort of hardware, and 3) an attempt to bring game developers under the Google umbrella, whether through aggressive recruiting or even major acquisitions."
Let us know what you think of this rumor in the comments.
