Shovel Knight: Shovel of Hope Review

Shovel Knight: Shovel of Hope Review
Back in 2014, Shovel knight shook the world, but sadly, I missed it. I never got to play shovel knight until this year. Does it deserve all this praise?  Or does it deserve to go with the rest of the Retro milkers? Well, let's find out! But before we start, please consider liking,  sharing and subscribing to NintendosView. Also I'll  do the other campaigns later. Now let's dig in!

Story
Prior to the game, adventurers Shovel Knight and Shield Knight journeyed across the world alongside one another, but while exploring the Tower of Fate, a cursed amulet takes over Shield Knight and leaves Shovel Knight stranded outside of the sealed tower. Grieving for his beloved, Shovel Knight gives up adventuring and goes into self-imposed exile. During his absence, the Enchantress rises to power, spreading evil across the land. Upon hearing that the Enchantress has unsealed the Tower of Fate, Shovel Knight begins his journey back to it, hoping to find and rescue Shield Knight. In order to do so, Shovel Knight must fight the members of "The Order of No Quarter," who have been dispatched by the Enchantress to impede him.
A little more plot than you were expecting hu? And there's even a plot twist! So yah, all in all a good story.

Gameplay

Shovel Knights gameply, like most of shovel knight, combines new and old to make something truly special. It has some Ducktales, Legend of Zelda 1 and 2, some Mario bros 3, Castlevania and even Mega-Man! It takes everything that's good from these games, and throw in some other great things with it!
So the levels work like how they did in the day, head from point A to point B, however there are branching paths and collectables so it encourages you to explore the levels. The levels are also varied and each have unique and fun mechanics. It also gives you a lot more options than they would have let you back in the day. Like you can break your check point to get more money, but you could head back to a difficult part of the level you barley survived!
The bosses in this game are amazing and varied! They are (for the most part) fun but challenging bosses where you are going to have to memorize there attack pattern. Also, every boss is extremely memorable!
I honestly couldn't find any problems in Gameplay. The only thing that may make some of you take more cation is that this game is HARD, but if you're willing to stick with it, it's worth it.

Controls
A platformer is only as good as its controls. And I'm happy to say that whether you're playing with a pro-controller to a single Joy-Con, the game controls beautifully. The jumps just feel right! However I did notice a little bit of lag in some of the harder levels but nothing too noticeable. Also the side hit feels a little weak at first but you get use to it.
So wether you're jumping, hitting (Both to the side or down!) or using items this game controls vary, vary good!

Music
Next up is the music. Now, you may remember some games from the past with really catchy, good tunes. Just think about that tune for a second.
Now Shovel Knight, once again, does not disappoint!  Its songs are JUST AS GOOD AS THE ONE YOU THOUGHT OF! I can almost guarantee it! I'm trying not to gush but the music is soooo good! I don't think there was a single track that I did not like!

Replay Value **Minor Spoilers**
So, the reason why there is a spoiler warning is because I'm getting into end game stuff. You have been warned.
So, the game itself isn't too long, but with the difficulty it will take you a little while. However, there are a lot of collectables, Hi-Scores to get and things to buy!
But if that's not your game, than once you beat the game, you unlock a bunch of mini-challenges that will test your skills! And you also unlock a hard mode, so that if the game wasn't hard enough for you already, you can play it again but this time with it being even MORE brutal!
So yeah, well it doesn't have as much replay value as say, Breath of the Wild, there is still a good amount of it!

Conclusion
Shovel Knight is, without a doubt, a modern, 8-bit masterpiece. It has a good story that reminds us of simpler days, Fantastic Gameplay, quick controls that feel GOOD, memorable music and plenty to come back to! While not perfect, quite simply, if you have not played it yet than... what are you waiting for?

9/10
 The bad
  • It may be a bit too hard for some players
The Good
