Super Mario Bros Movie: Will It Be Any Good?
Super Mario Bros Movie: Will It Be Any Good?
Nintendo surprised everyone when they announced they are working on a Super Mario Movie. It surprised us even more when they said they were working with Illumination to make it! So, will it even be any good?
But before we dive deeper, please consider liking, sharing and subscribing to GamingTelescope. Now, Let's take a look!
The Feel of The Film
What will the film feel like? Will there constantly be farting jokes? There will probably be a little crude humor, but I doubt Nintendo would let them go overboard.
Could Illumination capture the feel of Mario? Will it have some modern music or have a modern arrangement of the Mario theme? Probably. Will there be lots of jumping and battling? Yes on jumping, not so sure about battles. There's hardly any battles in all the other Illumination movies.
In the end it's hard to tell if they'll be able to capture to feel of the Mario games. It will probably have modern music and rearrangements, a little crude humor and some action. Hopefully, they pull it off.
Main Character?
The next thing that will decide how the movie will be like is who the main character will be. Now, you might be thinking, "It's a Super Mario Movie, of course Mario's going to be the main character!"
But wait, Super Mario is the name of the series, that's like assuming that Zelda is the main character of a Legend of Zelda movie!
So, Let's look at who could be the main character.
Wario
Illumination would have a lot of fun with this! If Wario would be the main character, it would be a vary different movie! And there would diffidently be fart jokes! Wario could do pranks, start off as a jerk, and then grow to be a hero. I think Illumination could pull off Wario easily! But I'm not sure Nintnendo wants their first movie since the 90s to be a Wario movie.
Mario
The one, the only.... MARIO!!! Mario could be on a grand adventure filled with humor, strange settings and hopefully no talking Goombas! Now, if they were to do a Mario movie, they would need Charles Martinet to voice him! We'll get more into the voice acting later, but do you think Illumination can pull off the character of Mario?
Well, it's hard to say. They've created a wide variety of characters, so I hope they can! But I imagine with Shigeru Miyamoto their, the odds are hopefully in our favor! Let's cross our fingers!
It also occurred to me that Mario could come into the real world, which, I'd prefer the mushroom kingdom but I could see it happen.
A Kid
This one I honestly think is the most likely, and honestly could go the best for the movie. What if the main character is, infact, not Mario but a normal kid who somehow enters the Mushroom Kingdom? (Kinda like the Lorax, and I'm sorry for comparing Mario to the Lorax! It can't be helped!) It has some potential.
The kid could be aided by Mario who's like a Super Hero, but only the kid can save the day because Bowser did something or other!
Voice Acting And Characters
This section Illumination will have to deal with caution. It kinda scares me thinking about some characters that could possibly talk. Let's break it down!
Goomba
I could see this going two ways. 1 would be for the Goombas would outright talk, which I'm not sure how I feel about that! And 2, the Goombas would make Goomba or minion like sounds, or both.
I don't know. They could make them like how they were in Mario + Rabbids. Hope they do these guys right!
Bowser
Depending on how much he is involved, I think Bowser outright talking is a distinct possibility. They COULD pull it off, but it could also vary easily cringy.
They could also do Bowsers character in three ways.
1.More like Paper Mario or Mario RPG, a villain, but more on the goofy side.
2.More like Galaxy, a big, tough villain.
3.A combination of the two.
My guess is on the former. Think about it. Illumination loves to do goofy bad guys. Infact, I don't remember a single intimidating one!
Mario
They'll even need to tread carefully with Mario's voice! They'll need to make sure that he sounds like Mario, and people can stand listening to him for an hour! I'm not too worried about this one but others seem to be so I figured I'd point it out.
As for his character, he's the hero! He's brave, friendly and all other good traits you can think off! Of course there will need to be some character development, but I imagine for the most part he'll stay the same.
Peach
Damsels in distress doesn't do well on the big screen anymore. And Nintendo knows this, so they will need to make sure that Peach isn't too winy and annoying! Now, they tried to make her appeal more to the modern audience with the terrible Mario Odyssey ending, and Illumination will probably make her in distress, but still look kinda tough?
The Action
Nintendo has shown that they can do some great action scenes with Super Mario Odyssey, but Illumination for the most part likes humor over action. So, I imagine the movie will be a little slower than it is to play a Mario game.
As for the action itself, hopefully it will be similar to Super Mario Odyssey's. I also bet there will be a part with music playing and Mario just jumping around, going on an adventure, and then the music fades when Mario gets to where he was trying to go or whatever.
But again, judging by Illumination's track record, there probably wont be that much action till the climax.
Conclusion
So in conclusion, the super Mario movie is still up and the air, and it really could go ether way. It could be the most amazing video game movie ever and completely blow us away, but It's equally likely that it will make us walk out of the theater shacking our heads.
And there you have it! Do you think the Mario will be good? How do you think it will be like? Let us know in the comments below. Also, don't forget to like, share and subscribe to GamingTelescope. Thanks for taking a look!
