Donkey Kong Jungle Beat Review
Donkey Kong Jungle Beat Review
Nestalga goggles off
With DK tropical freeze right around the corner I'm going to review a lesser know Kong game. Donkey Kong Jungle Beat! What? Never heard of it? Well I'm going to change that! Come along on a jorney as we descover the lost Donkey Kong game, and if it deserves to be found. But before we start, If you like what you see than consider subscribing to NintendosView so you never miss an article! And no, sadly the DK rap isn't in this one, even thought it has a good beat! Now without farther adu, lets dive into the Jungle of Dk!
Story
Story? What story? I literly had to look it up because I never thought there was one! Well, here it is in the insteruction booklet,
One day, the peace of the jungle was disrupted by a rampaging pack of wild baddies who wreaked havoc on the residents of the jungle.
Not only that, but they laid claim to every kingdom and stole each one's precious bananas!
"This calls for the one and only Donkey Kong!"
Join forces with your jungle buddies to face an array of powerful enemies and restore peace to the jungle!
Yep, that's it. See why I didn't realize there was a story? But it gets the job done and the game doesn't really need a story.
Controls
Donkey Kong Jungle Beat doesn't control quite like normal platformers. In this game, it is highly recommended to use the DK bongos (unless your playing on the Wii!) and the faster you tap one side of the bongo drums, the faster DK moves. To jump, you press both bongo drums and to attack you clap and DK pounds his chest and hurts enemy's around him, or grabs them. If DK grabs a baddie, you have to pound the bongo's to punch them. The only problem with the contols is if you use a normal GameCube controller. If you do that, you have to tap the stick to the side as much as you do with bongos and you press A to jump and move the C-stick to clap. I just wish you could hold the stick in any direction to move but, oh well.
Gameplay
The Gameplay is pretty straight forward. Head from point A to point B while collecting as many bananas as you can. Oh yah, and smash anything in your path! So instead of lives you have banana's which, if you have enugh of at the end of the level you can get metals and unlock new levels. Now, you first start in a mini level or game, and they are good fun. Then you do a banana eating mini-game where you have 5 seconds to eat as many banana's as you can. Then it heads to the real level! You can get bananas a number of ways, ranging from smashing baddies and minibosses, to collecting them on the ground, to clapping near flowers. As for level variety, there is a lot. No two levels are vary similar and each have new foes, obstacles and mini games to face! The platforming may be more on the easy side though.
You can even ride animals, like birds, strange living parachuting critters and even a yak creature. But sadly no mine carts. Then, when the levels done, you do the banana eating mini-game one more time and than you face a boss. There are only four kinds of Bosses but there are harder versions of them later on and each are vary well done. My only complaint is that you can't start over the game and it would also be nice to have a hard mode. My only other complaint is that its quite short, 5 to 8 hours and since you can only replay levels instead of starting all over, that kind of ruins the replay factor.
Music
Honestly, the music is really good. It goes from tropical and fun, to rock. And its all great. One fun thing is in some spots a croud cheers for you and yells "DK!, DK!" and its just another great addition. Each song fits the place and boss perfectly and is catchy and fun to listen to. One of my favorite eerie songs is Banshee woods in this game.

Graphics
If you couldn't tell, the graphics hold up quite well for a GameCube game and still look good today. From the grass, to the bosses, rain and trees, it looks great, it would look amazing though if Nintendo came out with an HD remake for switch! *Ahem!* This is probably one of the best looking GameCube games.
Replay Value
The replay value of this game isn't high, but you can unlock a secret final boss if you collect enugh metels, you can also try to beat your own high score, however, but the lack of save files and being able to start over really pulls it down.
Conclusion
While far from perfact, it is still a blast to play today with fun gameplay, tight contols, creative levels, great graphics, good music and more. Its a good, simpler version than the country series and if you remember that you'll have a good time. It may be a little short, but it deserves your attention. DK really is the King of the jungle!
7/10
