Super Smash Bros Melee review

Super Smash Brothers Melee.
Nastalga goggles off
Get ready! The new smash is just around the corner and I think its about time we look back on the second smash, super smash bros melee. Please note I am going to try my best to judge it whithout my goggles on but there still may be some. I will rate by saying if its worth a look back, if you should pick it up for the first time, or it should be forgotten. Without further adu, lets head back to super smash bros!
Incase you don't know, super smash bros melee is the second game in the super smash bros searies, released on the Gamecube in 2001. incase you have been living under a rock, it is a game where lots of nintendo characters battle it out on the battlefield. Melee is still played by competitors today, but should it be played by you?

Opening cutsceane
Oh, man! How can you watch this and not get chills? Its just amazing! And prepares you for the review ahead. Plus its way better than the originals start up! Its got bowser in the fire, Samas fighting off Ridey (Who sadly isn't in the game!), Mario fighting Link and more!

Controls

If you thought brawl's or Smash on wiiu's controlls wern't good enugh for you, you came to the right place! So it controlls like this. A for a normal attack, B for your secondary attack. X and Y to jump, and combine these attacks with moving your stick in a chirtain direction, shild blocks, C-Stick bashes, mid-air dodges, rolls and more, and you got yourself one of the most diverse move sets of any smash game.
This game has vary fluent controls and plays like a dream! It doesn't hurt that you play it with one of the best controllers of all time! Heck, there are even some cool glitches if you are playing professional! This games controls decadently are not a disappointment.

Gameplay

Alright guys, we have hit the main area of smash. We have already talked about how good the controls are but lets head into the gameplay. So you have a few diferent modes. Single player, multi-player, trophies, lottery and options.
So lets start with the single player modes. Now one really cool thing about these modes is you can choose how many lives you have and what the difficulty is. First off is Classic mode. And it plays a lot like the single player mode in the original. Where you fight one person, than 2 people, giant people, team battles and more. And its a lot of fun, especially since you the people you fight are random.
There are also a couple of mini games but there okay. There's target test where you try to break all the targets in a place designed especially for your character, a trophy catch game where you have to hit the trophy into the hole and a maze game that can end in seconds if you choose to do so. But if you head to a farther end than you earn more coins to spend at the lottery which I'll talk more about later. Than you finally make it to the  metal, random character, and there pretty hard to knock off, especially in harder difficulties. Than you face metal Mario and Luigi (Which has some pretty awesome music!)
And than its time to face master hand himself as he laughs and comes for you! The battle agents master hand is pretty epic but easy, and if you take long enough than crazy hand comes on over as well, which is a harder, more unpredictable version of master hand. After you beat master hand you get rewarded with credits and than a trophy and a picture of yourself, which is quite satisfying.

Next up, Adventure mode! This time you head through levels based on Nintendo universes and there great! Beat up goomba's, escape from an exploding planet, metroid style, go through a legend of Zelda dungion filled with re-deads, and even race not to get run over in mute city! Than ther's the normal battles both and the cool thing about these is sometimes random things happen. Like you face Luigi (who sends Mario to fall from peaches castle!) instead of Mario! Or face a giant Kirby instead of a bunch of small Kirbys! But then comes the big moment where you face... Bowser? That's all? Well, sort off. If you beat Adventure mode fast enough, don't lose all your lives, or do it in a normal dificulty or higher, than you get to fight Gigga Bowser! and honestly, I havn't unlocked him yet but I hear he's hard!

And finally, is all star mode. In this mode you face off agenst every single Character and you can't die once and there are only three hearts in between battles. And it starts off with you agents one character, than later 2, than 3... So yah, good luck if you decided to do it on vary hard difficulty!

Oh, you thought we were done with Gameplay? Not even close! Were not even past the single player stuff! There is stuff like homerun contest where you beat up a punching bag than try to hit it as far as you can, break the targets and you fighting pollygons in 10, 50, 100, timed and cruel mode. And blieve me, cruel mode is vary cruel! I barley get in a hit before bouncing between those cruel demons and than slam off the stage! If you want to practice, the others are for you, but if you want a REAL chalange, cruel is for you.
There are also 50 missions and most of them are fun, and the later ones are certainly challenging! Also some of them unlock new stages, so that's nice! Another fun thing is some of them force you to be a cirtain character so you have to adapt to that character instead of your main.

Now there are 290 trophies to collect between the lotery, (Where you spend coins to try to earn new trophies.) mini games, and all single player modes and just earning trophies there's a lot to unlock! Some trophies you have never even heard of, like Doshin the giant, or Japan exclusives. There were even trophies of games that weren't out yet at the time! The trophies are defidently an awesome addition!
Well, that wraps up the single player mode while it is great, there is one glaring problem! You can't use the C-stick! I know, I know you can do charged attackes by pressing A and hitting to the side at the same time but its way harder! The C-stick is my most used attack and for some reason, it doesn't work in single player modes.

Now its time for Multi-player modes! And there's a lot to cover here as well! First off, there are 26 characters and 29 stages in all. The fun thing is lots of this you unlock by doing battles and than you see a foe incoming and than you face them, and if you win there yours! Which I really hope unlocking things comes back in Smash 5. I remember putting in hours in how my cousins told me to unlock Mewtow! It adds a lot more replay value.
First off is good old melee which you battle freinds and CPU's alike! There are four modes to choose from, Stock, which is where you lose a life if you fall off a cliff, time, where you do as much damage to your freinds as possable in the time limit, coin, where if you get hurt you drop coins and whoever has the most coins wins and finally, Bonus Melee, Like Timed Melee, except instead of counting KO's for wins, The bonus score is counted. The bonus points from the awards your player receives counts for your score. Whoever has the most points wins. Then there's the custamizable melee's like giant, tiny, super sudden death, invisible and more. And there's a lot of variety there.
There is one more mode! Tournament mode! Where up to 64 players can play by naming there characters, and passing controllers. And it is a LOT of fun!
Next up is the stages and I personally think almost all of them are good. With lots having nice twists like turning, moving cars, changing arena and more. And the rest being good places to fight. The only place I don't like is Ice mountain.
My only complaint in this is... Nothing! Lots of Items to choose, characters, stages, modes and more!

Music
Did you ever think we would get past gameplay? Well we finally made it! Give yourself a pat on the back! Next up is the music and I must say, its aged vary well! The music fits each place nicely (like rock in mute city, gorgeous live orchestra in fountain of dreams, to the eerie metroid levels the music in each stage is fantastic!), you heard the music at the start of the game, and even the music of the select menu is great! Sometimes the song changes for curtain stages, which adds even more variety.
Graphics
This is where it starts to show its age a little. Each stage looks really nice, from the beautiful jungle to the charming green greens, it looks great. However, it doesn't look as good as it use to and sadly, smash 4 looks better.
Replay Value
This game diffidently has a lot of replay value from smashing freinds in new modes, taking on master hand in hard difficulty, playing as new characters, unlocking trophies, characters, stages and lots more, this game has a LOT of replay value!

Conclushion
There is no denying the greatness of good old melee. From smashing friends, or smashing competently, you have to play this game at least once! While its not the newest in the smash series, its diffidently on of the best.

Rated 9/10
